John Rutan Obituary

John Bruce Rutan of Liberty Township, Michigan passed away on February 25, 2026 at Senior Moments Assisted Living. He was born on March 13, 1935 in Somerset Center, Michigan to Clair and Charlotte (Lane) Rutan.
John is survived by his wife of 68 years, Janice (Colton) Rutan, whom he married on June 15, 1957. He is also survived by two children, John (Patricia) Rutan and Ann (Jim) McKinley; four grandchildren, Nathan (Kristi) Rutan, John (Amber) Rutan III, Elizabeth (Jarad) Shannon, and James (Kelsey) McKinley Jr.; six great grandchildren, John Rutan IV, Rori Rutan, Graham Rutan, Lauren Shannon, Colton Shannon, and James McKinley III; and one brother, Harold (Peggy) Rutan.
He was preceded in passing by his parents; and five siblings, Charles Rutan, Donald Rutan, Louis Rutan, David Rutan, and Gerald Rutan.
John proudly served our country in the Unites States Army from 1958-1960. He was a member of the Farmers Antique Tractor and Engine Association and also served on the board of directors there. He served as past president of the Inter Lake Lions club in Somerset Center, Michigan as well as past president of the Horton Little League during the 1960's. In addition to John giving of his time he was also employed at Goodyear for over 32 years. He was a farmer at heart and spent many hours working on the family farm.
A funeral service to honor his life will be held at the Hampton Funeral Home in Hanover on Monday, March 2, 2026 beginning at 11:00 am with Pastor Randy Evans, Pastor Craig Goodlock, and Pastor Chris Murphy officiating. Interment will take place at Roseland Memorial Gardens at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday, March 1st from 4-7 pm at the Hampton Funeral Home in Hanover. They will also receive friends from 10 am until the time of the service on Monday. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Antique Tractor and Engine Association.
