John Francis Ryves, known to all as Jack, was a man of quiet strength, intellectual

engagement, and dedicated craftsmanship. He was born in Lafayette, Indiana on February 3, 1938, and remained a proud resident of the area throughout his life.

Jack served his country in the Army National Guard and was a graduate of Purdue University with a bachelor's degree in economics. His education led to a long career at ALCOA, where he worked until his retirement in the 1990s. A man of many and varied interests, Jack's hands were rarely still.

He was an avid outdoorsman who found solace in nature, whether he was bow hunting, hiking, or fishing with one of the custom rods he so skillfully made. His artistic soul was expressed through detailed colored pencil portraits of animals, and his craftsmanship was also evident in the beautiful, handmade chess boards he created. Jack was also a meticulous collector of cards, stamps, coins, and figurines, and he was deeply proud of his extensive library, a testament to a lifetime of learning.

He was the devoted husband to Bonnie Meree Ryves, who preceded him in death. Jack now leaves behind his stepchildren: Cindy Carey, Trenlin Hubbert, Nancy Hale, and Gary Hubbert. He was also a much-beloved uncle to his many nieces and nephews.
