John Albert Sauer, age 73, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2023, at Mayo Clinic Health System Austin. John was born on August 8, 1950, in Austin, Minnesota, to Albert and Clara (Moen) Sauer. He graduated from Austin High School in 1968 and Austin Vo-Tech in 1970 with a degree in auto mechanics. On February 22, 1975, John was united in marriage to Rebecca Elaine Stephens. The couple was blessed with two children, Kelly and John, and made their home in Austin. John began working construction, first at Bill’s Excavating, and then for the City of Austin. He officially retired on August 8, 2017, his 67th birthday, as a heavy equipment operator. John was an avid NASCAR fan, and enjoyed camping and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
John is survived by his daughter, Kelly (Aaron) Osmon of Austin; son, John (Crystal) Sauer of Fort Mill, South Carolina; grandchildren, Lanie Osmon, and Jaxton and Ruby Sauer; and sister, Judy (Thomas) Walsh of Red Wing, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca in 2016; parents, Albert and Clara; and sister, Janet.
The funeral service for John will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 29, 2023, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. The visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin and will continue for one hour prior to the service at church on Friday. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Austin. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
