John Savage, a dedicated farmer who spent most of his life in the Brimfield and Geneseo areas, has passed away at the age of 79. He was born on December 5, 1944, in Peoria, Illinois the son of Harlan and Ruby (LaFollette) Savage, and he passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at his home in rural Geneseo.
He was raised and educated in the Brimfield area graduating from Brimfield High School. He married Cynthia Wirth Stoner in 2017 in Cambridge, IL.
John's passion for farming was evident throughout his career. He worked tirelessly to cultivate crops and raise various animals on his farm. He enjoyed raising cattle, goats, chickens, and guineas and gathering their eggs as well as raising hay for the animals and bee keeping. His vegetable and fruit garden were among his proudest accomplishments, providing fresh produce for himself and others Even while using modern farming equipment John had enjoyed using old-school techniques including the use of horses in farming.
Beyond his agricultural pursuits, John found joy in other activities as well. Carpentry was one of his hobbies, allowing him to make many useful projects. He also in his youth had enjoyed baseball and was a lifelong reader during his leisure time. He enjoyed socializing while attending the Kewanee Sale Barn.
In this difficult time of grieving the loss of John Savage, we remember not only a hardworking individual but also a beloved family member and friend. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew him.
John is survived by his loving wife Cindy. He was also a stepfather to Brad (Ange) Stoner, Andrew Stoner, and Austin Stoner, and a step-grandfather to Rylee Stoner. Other survivors include his sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary (Ron) Knappern, Eleanor (Jim) Murphy, and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Brenda (Mike) Dean, Angie (Tim) Kincaid as well as close friends and his dogs, Rosie and Festus. He was preceded in death by his father Harlan Savage, mother Ruby (LaFollette) Savage, brother William Savage, and brother Robert Savage.
A visitation will take place at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services in Geneseo on Friday, December 29, 2023, starting at 10:00 AM. This will be followed by a funeral service at the same location at 11:00 AM. The burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Geneseo. Memorials may be given to Henry County Humane Society, Geneseo.
