John Scappaticci Obituary

John was the valedictorian and a football player at his high school in his hometown of Jay, Maine. He later received a Doctorate of Osteopathy and worked as a dedicated family physician for many years, most recently with Virtua Family Medicine in Lumberton, NJ. When he wasn t working, John and his wife Sunday would often go out on their boat in Mystic Island, NJ. John was always working on projects around the house and was a huge Philadelphia Eagles Fan. He will be remembered most of all for his love and selflessness.
A gathering of friends and family will be held on Wednesday, August 24th at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Maple Shade, from 10:00am-11:00am with his funeral mass to follow at 11:00am. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Cherry Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the American Heart Association, www.heart.org. Dr.Scappaticci was my doctor for many years & it still doesn´t seem right that he´s no longer here. I saw him as a patient just 3 days before he passed. I miss him dearly, he always listened to me & helped me through a few tough times. He was a great doctor. R.I.P. Dr. Scappaticci

I am floored seeing this obituary. I worked with Dr. Scappaticci when I was in my 20´s. He was so soft spoken but so so intelligent. It was an honor to watch him work. He took personal interest in a medical issue I had and if it weren´t for him ordering such a rare test for an adult, I would have been in kidney failure by now. He saved my life. As a widow myself, I´m just heartbroken for his family left behind to navigate their grief. May God Bless his wife as she navigates the second year of her loss. I found it to be more difficult than the first. Please know I´m praying for you all. And to you, Dr. Scappaticci, thank you for saving me and we did it laughing thinking that there was no way I had what you thought. Rest in heaven because God knows you healed so many here on Earth.

Dr. Scap was one of a kind. Irreplaceable. I really don't know what all of us are going to do without him. He was so caring, compassionate, intelligent, thorough. Dr. Scap took care of me, my family and many of my close friends. I miss him terribly. I am so very sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to all of his family, friends and patients. He was a great individual and doctor. He truly was a gift. May he Rest in Peace.

Sundayann, I´m so sorry for your loss. I found this obituary by accident looking for a friend. I saw your name and said I only know one person in this world named Sunday. The last time I saw you was Anthony G funeral. Again, another person taken away to soon. My husband also passed suddenly 2 years ago at the age of 64. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I didn´t know your husband tho, he sounds like a wonderful person and doctor.

Dr. Scappaticci recently offered advice and guidance about a health issue. He was not my primary physician but he filled in for her and helped me as if I was a long term patient of his. I recall him reviewing my history, meticulously confirming the details and then setting up a plan to help me feel better. My condolences to all. May he rest peacefully knowing that his work here is done.

I was a patient of Dr. Scappaticci for many years and he was the kindest most caring physician I have ever had. My husband had been his patient prior to his death and Dr. Scappatucci took such great care of him. My husband was not an easy patient but as a doctor Dr. S had the patience of Job. We shared our love of the Eagles but this loss seems more than losing my doctor but losing a trusted adviser. My sincere sympathy for his wife and family.

To Mrs. Scappatticci and Family, my husband, Jerry Thomas, and mom Dolores Guyer are long-time patients of Dr. Scappatticci. The loss of your dear husband to us was being like being struck by lightning. He was so much more than a doctor to our family. He was a friend and a caring physician. Every appointment was always so much more than a doctor-patient appointment. He made you feel secure and valued, and your health meant much to him. You worked harder to ensure that you cared about his advice. This world will be far more less because we genuinely lost an exceptional doctor and person. I was so shocked & saddened to learn of Dr. Scappaticci´s passing. I have been a patient of Dr. Scappaticci´s for about 30 years & he was also my husband´s Doctor. In fact, my husband recommended that I change from my current doctor since he had such great respect for Dr. Scappaticci. My husband had a high PSA reading & Dr. Scappaticci kept encouraging him to go to see the cancer doctor. By doing so as the cancer was ready to masticate, my husband had radiation treatment for months & was
cured of cancer. My last visit in June with Dr. Scappaticci, I thanked him for caring for me over the past many years and said "God Bless You". He responded with "God Bless You Too!" What a wonderful Doctor & person. May he Rest In Peace. Sincere condolences to his family, friends, coworkers, patients & all who loved & respected Dr. John Scappaticci.

Fall 2021 I wrote a letter to Dr. Scappaticci explaining that I was seeing and hearing things from my husband that had me very concerned that his mind was starting to fail him. I work less than 10 minutes from the doctor's office. My daughter delivered the letter and less than 15 minutes later, Dr. Scappaticci called to see how I was doing. That meant alot. Like my family doctor when I was a child, Dr. Scappaticci saw the whole family was important and integral in a person's health. I thank Jesus for that kind of care provider. May the Lord grant you His peace at this time of sadness while rejoicing that Dr. S is in the hands of the Great Healer.

I am so, so heartbroken to learn of the passing of Dr. Scappaticci. He was such an exceptional doctor and human being. Many years ago, when I moved to New Jersey, he was recommended to me by a dear friend. "He is the only doctor for you to put your trust in." John you were always a good brother where I remember you passing your paper route The Grit to me and helping with my bike maintenance when I was young. You grew into a devoted husband, family man, doctor, and friend to the loving people around you. We do get caught up in our everyday lives where the time seems to slip by too quickly. It was good talking and texting with each other over the years to see how each was doing. I´m just so sad right now. Dr. Scappaticci has been my doctor for over 18years. The last time l saw him, l told him l´ve been so stressed as my brother has been sick but getting better, so my stress was getting better. I have an appointment with him tomorrow, and l meant to tell him my brother passed away about three months ago. Only for me to hear this afternoon that Dr. Scappaticci passed away suddenly over the weekend. I just froze! I´m going to miss him. He was a very good doctor, he listened, and he cared so much! I also look forward to seeing him cos he truly cares about his patients health! This is so unbelievable for me! Rest ln Peace my favorite doctor, Dr. Scappaticci!
