John Gerold Schandel, 90, of Seaford, Delaware, formerly of Exton, PA, passed away August 24, 2025.
Born February 16, 1935 in Wilmington, Delaware, he was the son of the late Gerold A. and Emma Schandel.
John served honorably in the United States National Guard and obtained the rank of Sergeant first class.
John was a manager for Control Data Corporation for over 20 years, a design engineer for DXI DuPont Xerox for two years, and then drove for Krapf bus company for the next 10 years until his retirement in 2000.
He enjoyed wood carving, fishing with his grandchildren, taking his beloved wife, Mary Jane, to the casinos. He enjoyed many vacations with his family and traveling the world during his career.
John was the beloved husband of the late Mary Jane (Maier), loving father of Susan J. Schandel (Anne Spicer) and Julia Schandel; caring father-in-law of Susan I Schandel; adoring grandfather of 11, great grandfather of 20, and great great grandfather of one; and beloved brother of Laura Klimaszewski (the late Chess) and Catherine Hollingsworth (Richard). He will also be dearly missed by his furry companion Penny Lane. John was predeceased by Mary Jane Schandel, his loving wife of 57 years; by his son, Stephen J Schandel; and by his in-laws: Henry and Mary Maier, whom he loved dearly.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing 10 AM to 10:50 AM, Thursday, September 4, 2025 at Saint Phillips and James Catholic Church, 723 Lincoln Highway, Exton, PA 19341, followed by his funeral mass at 11 AM. Interment at Philadelphia Memorial Park.
