John Orlando Scherer

John Orlando Scherer, 83, of Caldwell, Idaho, passed away on January 30, 2026 surrounded by his loving family.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, John's life was marked by hard work, service, and faith. Born on June 4, 1942, in Nampa, Idaho, he served his country in the Army Guard and Air Force, later working as a mechanic, and an owner/operator of Scherer's Diesel. He faithfully served in many callings in his church and was always willing to lend a helping hand. John loved target shooting, camping, hunting, and rock hunting, and was known for his cherished "Grandpa bear hugs."

He will be deeply missed by his wife Billie, their six children, Kelli, (Ron Manker) Keith, Kenny, Kevin & Kurtis. His 14 grandchildren and his 25 great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his son, Karl; three brothers, Leroy, Rick, and Gene; one grandson, JK and three great-grandchildren, Boston, Shea, and Danni.

Services for John will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 9th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Caldwell 2nd Ward, 4509 South Montana Ave., Caldwell. Interment will immediately follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Caldwell.
