John Paul Schibel, of Flemington (Raritan Township), NJ, died on Friday, October 24, 2025, at his home. His devoted companion, Joan Schenck, was by his side.
Born in Doylestown, PA, John was a longtime resident of Hunterdon County. He attended Bear Tavern Elementary School in Titusville and graduated from South Hunterdon High School in 1977. He served in the US Army. As a young man he was head of building and maintenance at Claremont Towers in Hillsborough, NJ. He later held the same position for Harding Township Public Schools. Recently John was employed by Niece's Lumber in Lambertville, serving for 15 years as a driver and lumber man
John was a devoted father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family. When possible, he would bring his young sons, Christopher and Erik to work with him. A talented drummer, he encouraged his sons to study music. John was a skilled wood worker, building furniture and toys for his sons' families and sharing his knowledge and skills with them. When John Schibel built your deck or picnic table, it was guaranteed to last a lifetime. In his spare time, he collected matchbox cars and built projects with Legos. He was an excellent cook and especially loved cooking for his family.
John is survived by his companion of 19 years, Joan Schenck; his sons and their families, Christopher and Brooke Schibel and their son Dean of High Bridge, NJ and Erik and Melissa "Missy" Schibel and their daughters Olivia and Cassidy of Ewing; his brothers and their wives William and Michele Schibel of Buckingham, PA, Luke and Renee Schibel of Magnolia, Tx and Robert and Valerie Schibel of Huntertown, Indiana; his cousins Gail Kutz and her husband Charles, Jon Janyszeski and Benjamin Janyszeski and his wife Nancy. John was the former husband of the late Mary Lee McGuire; the nephew of the late Betty and Mervin Stolz and the late Marie and Bennie Janyszeski and the cousin of the late Ronald Stolz.
