Andrew Gyimesi of Doylestown, Pennsylvania, formerly of New Hope, died on Thursday, October 2,2025, at Pine Run Community in Doylestown. He was 96 years old.

Born in Mako, Hungary, Andrew was the son of Imre and Ann Gyimesi. His father was the town mayor and a clergyman. Andrew's father had the foresight to encourage the local farmers to dedicate their efforts to growing onions, a plan which still sustains the area's farming community. Andrew often spoke of his parents with pride in their community dedication and foresight.

Andrew was a structural engineer. He designed industrial structures including underground parking garages and cemetery mausoleums. His profession took Andrew and his wife Sonia to various parts of the world with extended stays in Montreal, Puerto Rico, New York and Bala Cynwyd before retiring to New Hope. They lived there happily before moving to Pine Run where they made many new friends.

Andrew and Sonia met at a dance in London. Sonia had been a gifted ballet dancer prior to the war. Andrew asked her to dance and after just a few steps Sonia suggested that they sit down. However, the romance was kindled, and they were married in 1956 in New York City. They had both experienced the atrocities of the war which only strengthened their love and dedication to one another.

A gracious presence and outgoing personality, Andrew treasured time with his friends and neighbors. He enjoyed fencing and was a champion chess player. He shared Sonia's love for animals. When strolling together they always stopped to visit with any dog being walked and they were always stocked with biscuits just in case.

Andrew was predeceased by his beloved Sonia, his parents and his brother Charles. He is survived by an inner circle of friends including Elaine and Gilbert Kasinsky, Naomi Plakin and Eva Plakin.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Our Lady of Czestochowa Cemetery, 654 Ferry Road, Doylestown, Pennsylvania 18901.

Donations in Andrew's memory may be made to the Bucks County SPCA, PO Box 277, Lahaska, PA 18931.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Van Horn-McDonough Funeral Home, Lambertville, NJ.
