John R. Schnitker

John R. Schnitker passed away at home on Tuesday, September 9th, 2025, at the age of 70.

Born on Friday, March 18th, 1955, in New York, NY, the son of Robert and Dorothy (Krumm) Schnitker. John was raised in North Rockland and lived many years in Goshen, NY. 

Throughout his life, John was a pillar of strength and a source of wisdom. A police officer of 33 years he rose from patrolman to Captain with the Rockland County Sheriff’s Department, he served as Director of the intelligence Center for the last decade of his career. A devoted husband and father, he enjoyed fishing with his son, and watching the Yankees with his daughter. His stories, laughter, and kindness will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. 

John is survived by his wife Jean, his children Jennifer (Adam) and James (Nikki), and his sister Mary (Michael) who will carry forward his memory and love.

 A visitation will be held Monday, September 15, 2025, from 4-7pm at the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc., 82 South Church Street, Goshen, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial to honor and celebrate John's life will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at St. John the Evangelist RC Church, Murray Avenue, Goshen, NY. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Goshen, NY.
