John J. Sciackitano, age 85, a resident of Winfield, IL, passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2025. He was born January 22, 1940 in Chicago, IL to John Carl & Carrie Sciackitano.
John was a US Navy veteran serving in the Pacific & Mediterranean. He spent his professional career in print media working for Associated Press and The Chicago Sun-Times/Daily News. He started at the Sun-Times/Daily News as a typesetter and retired as a Production Manager. He is a member of the Chicago 16" softball Hall of Fame as a member of the Championship Daily News Softball Team. He also loved fishing, bowling, and traveling with his wife, Carmen. His greatest passion and source of strength were his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren & his family.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carmen; his children John Vincent (Stephanie) Sciackitano & Laura (Daniel) Cryer; his daughter-in-law Denise Sciackitano; his grandchildren: Jacqueline Thomas (Ben Quinton), Richard (Lauren) Thomas, Nicole, Roxanne (fiancé Augustin), Courtney (Mike) Bullis, Caitlin (fiancé Max) and Gavin Sciackitano; his great-grandchildren: Leah, Hannah, Sophia, Hazel, Lucille, Camryn; his sister Donna (Reo) Guerrieri. Also survived by many nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son Jeffrey Anthony Sciackitano; his sister Betty (the late Paul) Stromberg; and his parents.
A visitation will be held Thursday, May 15, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL 60187. Relatives & friends are invited to meet directly at St. Michael Church, 310 S Wheaton Ave., Wheaton, IL 60187, on Friday, May 16, 2025, for a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to American Cancer Society.
