John Ira Scott, beloved husband, dedicated pastor, and cherished member of the community, passed away on October 5, 2023, in Claremore, Oklahoma. He was born on February 10, 1932, in Salina, Oklahoma. John led a life filled with love, service, and unwavering faith that touched the lives of countless individuals. After graduating from Salina High School, John embarked on a career that offered both professional success and spiritual fulfillment. For many years, he owned and operated Claremore Glass Shop. However, it was in the ministry that John found his true calling. Throughout his life, he passionately served as a pastor in numerous churches across Mayes County. From Blue Springs Church to Centerhill Church and Speckled Bird Church in Peggs, John's dedication to preaching the word of God left an indelible impact on his congregations. He also attended the House of Prayer in Foyil for many years. John possessed a unique blend of warmth and playfulness. He had a magnetic personality that drew people towards him effortlessly. A self-proclaimed lover of life, John never met a stranger. His infectious spirit ensured that if you entered a room without knowing him, you would undoubtedly leave with a new friend. Above all else, John was devoted to his family. He treasured every moment spent with them and embraced the role of loving husband wholeheartedly. His marriage to his wife was an incredible source of pride for him. They were joined in holy matrimony on May 28th, 1955 in Miami, Oklahoma. The bond they shared was evident to all who knew them. When not engaged in ministry or spending time with loved ones, John could often be found playing dominoes at the Claremore Senior Center. This leisure activity allowed him to connect with friends old and new while showcasing his competitive nature. You could also find John sitting on his front porch waving at all those who passed by. John will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His compassionate soul and unwavering dedication to his faith will forever inspire those who had the privilege of witnessing his life's work. As we gather to celebrate his remarkable journey, let us remember John Ira Scott as a pillar of strength, a beacon of hope, and a true testament to the power of love and kindness.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 9, 2023 in the Blue Springs Church in Salina with Reverend Lorne Beck and Pastor Denton Hubbard officiating. Burial will follow in the Bryan Chapel Cemetery with Michael Newton, JW Newton, Matt Cortese, Caleb Hubbard, Jerrod Scott, Jeremy Scott, and Cody Scott serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be Jessica Poorboy and Amanda Cashin. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., Sunday, October 8, 2023 at Shipman's Funeral Home in Pryor. John is survived by his wife, Dorothy Scott of the home; sons, Donnie Scott and wife Claire of Spavinaw, Oklahoma; daughters, Connie Newton and husband Dwight of Salina, Oklahoma, Margaret Hubbard and husband Devon of Claremore, and Libby Malone and husband Dan of Pryor, Oklahoma; 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; sisters, Connie King of Pryor, Oklahoma, Linda Shipley and husband Lee of Locust Grove, Oklahoma and Sharon Russell and husband Larry of Salina, Oklahoma; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Neal and Naomi Elizabeth Scott; son, Dennis Scott, brothers, Lilbern “Smokey” Scott, Junior Scott, Donald Scott and Jimmy Scott; and sisters, Lois Crawford, Wilma Sinor, and Rose Miller.
