Mr. John D. Scott, 84, of Swainsboro passed away Saturday, December 13, 2025, at his residence. He was born on March 14, 1941, in Swainsboro to JD Scott Sr. and Sara Scott. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorothy Scott; son-in-law, Ricky Thurman.
Mr. John Scott was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Swainsboro. He retired after 33 years of dedicated service with Derst Baking Company, known to many as Sunbeam Bread. In addition to his professional career, Mr. Scott proudly served his country for nine years in the National Guard. A devoted man of God, John cherished his family above all else. He also found great joy and peace in his pecan trees and working in his garden, passions that reflected his patient, nurturing spirit. He will be remembered for his faith, hard work, and the love he shared with all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carolyn Scott of Swainsboro; children, Terry Thurman, Vince (April) Scott; grandchildren, Joseph Thurman, August Thurman, Colby (Tara) Scott, Jaycee (Schuyler) Johnson; sisters, Mary Ann Smith, Sara Jo Britt, Judy (Michael) Bright; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, December 15, 2025, in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Reverend Joe Bedgood and Reverend Jonathan Shephard officiating.
Interment will be private in Eastbrook Cemetery at a later time.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
