John Shafer Obituary
John Kraus Shafer, 81, of Barnesville, entered eternal rest June 21, 2023.
Born Oct. 25, 1941, he was a son of the late Leonard and Ferne (Kraus) Shafer.
He attended Mahanoy Area, graduated from Delaware Valley College, 1963, with a B.S. in animal husbandry. He was an active member of PA Farm Bureau and Christ Lutheran Church.
Jack owned and operated J&L Shafer Farms for over 50 years. He lived out his passion for the land and agriculture. Upon his retirement he enjoyed the Florida winters.
He was preceded in death by wife, Laverne; sister, Linda Coulson; and brother, Leonard.
Jack is survived by sons, Jack and Michael; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, at Christ Funeral Home, Tamaqua. Church service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, at Christ Lutheran Church, Barnesville. Donations may be made in his memory to: Christ Lutheran Church c/o Shafer Family, 212 Fairview St., Tamaqua PA 18252.
