John David Sherrod

John David Sherrod, age 64, of Corning, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Robert Packer Hospital. He was born on July 31, 1960 in Merrillville, GA, the son of the late Lonnie and Louvenia (Welch) Sherrod. He married Esther Mavis on September 6, 2003 in Painted Post.
John enjoyed volunteering for the Salvation Army and spoke often of ringing the bell. He was known for playing Santa during the holidays and he was proud of his collection of Hess Trucks. John attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints in Gang Mills and he was a veteran of the US Army. He loved his home state of Georgia along with heritage from down south. John also worked as a caretaker at Bampa's House.
He is survived by his wife, Esther, children, Thomas (Victoria) Sherrod of Corning, Shelby (Dale) Phillips of Campbell, Matthew Sherrod of Campbell, Joseph (Gloria) Putnam of Corning, 10 grandchildren, siblings, Donald, Roy, Nancy, Linda, Evelyn, and Virginia, nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his beloved dog, Bandit. John was predeceased by his siblings, Harold, Clarence, Sam, and Winifred and a special nephew, Bruce Hopkins.
A celebration of life memorial service will take place at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 80 Chatfield Place Painted Post, at a time and date to be announced. Burial and military honors will follow at Bath National Cemetery.
