John Alexander Shewman, 87, of Hamlin, NY, died February 19, 2024 at Teresa House in Geneseo, NY after a stay of four months. Born in Rochester, NY on April 7, 1936, a son of Robert F. Shewman and Marjorie Lorraine Wall, he received a degree from Monroe Community College and became an eight-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force which included a stint as jet aircraft mechanic during the Vietnam War. He was a lumber truck driver for over twenty years, and he was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church. John is survived by his wife, Retha; two daughters: Rebecca (Praveen) Sethupathy of Ithaca, NY; and Meghan (Jonathan) Stanley of Honeoye Falls, NY; seven grandchildren: Caedmon, Rani Marie, and Dhilan Sethupathy; and Simeon, Isaac, Naomi, and Claire Stanley; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; two sisters: Frances Warner, and Marilyn Bauer; and two brothers: Robert F. Shewman and Joseph Shewman.
Friends and family may call at Vay-Schleich and Meeson Funeral Home, 38 East Ave, Hilton, NY 14468, Friday, February 23rd from 6-8 pm. His Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 24th at 11 am at Hamlin United Methodist Church, 1742 Lake Rd. N., Hamlin, NY. Refreshments will follow.
