John E. Sichert
92, of Franklin, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, March 26th at home after a brief period of hospice care. He was born on October 3, 1922 in Washington, DC.
He served briefly in the U.S. Navy in 1942, stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. He was employed 20 years at National Electric Machine Shop in Maryland. He married Marjory Edney of Tryon, North Carolina on November 17, 1951; she was his true love, best friend and lifetime partner of more than 63 years.
He founded his own mechanical engraving business in Burtonsville, Maryland in 1962. His customers were located in the Maryland/DC area and included several government agencies such as NASA and the Department of Defense.
John retired in 1979 and moved to Florida. For most of the next 23 years he and Marge lived in Vero Beach before moving to the Indianapolis area. He was active at the Franklin Senior Center and was former member of the Franklin Lodge No. 107 F. & A.M. His favorite drive was to Nashville where he enjoyed meals at Abe Lincoln Lodge in Brown County State Park (especially the fried biscuits and apple butter). He did not know a stranger and made many friends wherever he lived. He loved to show people photos and share his life stories.
He was preceded in death by his father John William Sichert; mother Catherine Rosina Karle Sichert; sister Catherine Marie Smith; and brother Elmer A. Sichert.
Survivors include his wife Marjory Sichert; son John William Sichert of Fairfield, Pennsylvania; daughter Nancy Lynn Sichert of Indianapolis, Indiana; cousins; two nieces; two nephews; and several great nieces and great nephews.
Calling will be from 11:00 - 1:00 P.M. Saturday, April 4th at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Greenwood Chapel 481 W. Main Street in Greenwood, Indiana. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery Franklin, Indiana
The family would like to thank the staff at Franciscan VNS St. Francis Hospice for the wonderful, compassionate care they provided in the weeks preceding John's death. Over the years Dr. Michael Sha at the Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis and cardiologist Dr. Vijay Rao at Indiana Heart Physicians who took excellent care of him and the family will always be appreciative of them.
