Obituary of John Simeone, Jr.
Mr. John Simeone, Jr., 96, of Tribes Hill, NY passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 following a brief illness. Born in Amsterdam, NY on October 7, 1926 he was the son of the late John and Aliceandra Farina Simeone, Sr.
A lifelong area resident, John graduated from Fultonville High School and went on to attend GM Institute in Lansing, Michigan.
During WWII, John served with the 32 Infinity, Division of the Red Arrow with the United States Army in the Philippines. Following the war, he was placed into the United States Air Corps, where he was a mechanic until his honorable discharge.
On August 30, 1952 he was united in marriage to Phayann "Phay" Elwell Simeone. That marriage was blessed with 61 years until her passing on October 20, 2013. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Stella Downing, Patrick Simeone and Stephen Simeone.
For 50 years, John was employed as the Parts Manager at Hosner Motor Car Company, retiring in 1992; however, he remained working part time into his 80's at Hosner's. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his son, Bruce Simeone and his wife Christine; two grandchildren, Christine and her husband Sean Black and Michael Simeone; three great grandchildren, Dylan, Emma Phay, and Sebastian; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial with military honors will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Legion John J. Wyszomirski Post 701, 123 W. Main Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
