John Gabriel Sloma

Our beloved John Gabriel Valdez Sloma was called home on January 24, 2025, at the age of 40.
As a boy Gabriel enjoyed playing sports and spending time with his cousins & friends. He was an avid Ninja Turtle fan. As a teen, he enjoyed skateboarding, playing guitar, fishing & listening to many genres of music that included Tejano, country, rock, punk rock & alternative. He enjoyed attending concerts with his sister Stephanie as a young adult. He was a Dallas Cowboy fan, win or lose, and enjoyed watching the games with family & friends.
As the only male in the family and the eldest sibling, he was very protective of his mother and sisters. As a young adult, Gabriel became a father to two wonderful sons, Seth & Ryan and was proud to be called their dad. He later met Melissa, who made an honest man out of him. Together they were blessed with his third son Jason and an addition of four stepchildren was added in this union. Each of his children brought such joy to him and his face lit up at the mention of their names. He was a proud father of all his kids. Gabriel was a dog lover and loved Barrie and Penelope, who are in dog heaven. Gordo misses him.
Under the tutelage of two uncles, Gabriel learned general contracting skills and mastered in tiling, where he created beautiful showers, backsplashes and flooring designs. He was a diligent worker whose goal was to provide for his family the best he could. Gabriel had the ability to problem solve through all the adversities he faced. Due to many life lessons, he endured, Gabriel developed a hardened exterior, although to those who knew and loved him, he showed the ever so lovable and kindhearted side of him. He was a simple man, funny and easy going who had a charismatic and infectious smile that lit up any room he entered. Gabriel loved all his family very much and he will be dearly missed and will remain forever in our hearts.
Gabriel is preceded in death by his maternal & paternal grandparents, Santos & Elodia Valdez, Raul & Ernestina Rodriguez and Bami Sloma.
He is survived by his wife Melissa Clark, sons Seth Valdez, Ryan Valdez and Jason Valdez. Stepchildren Justin Norman, Kacey Norman, Felicity Martinez & Destiny Bartsdale, Grandchildren, Adrain Martinez & Aviline Martinez, Father, Jim Rodriguez, Mother, Maria Back, stepparents- John & Jan Sloma and stepfather, Junior Back, Sisters, Stephanie (Kris) Alexander, Marissa (Javier) Segovia, Veronica Back, Bianca (Christopher) Prado, Becky Rodriguez, Elizabeth (Andrew) Murray and Natalie Rodriguez, Nephews & nieces: Jacob, James, John, Fenix, Gavin, Raidan, Ben, Damien, Cheyenne, Catarina & Barrie, Grandmother Rosa Back and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and close lifelong friends.
