John Louis Smith, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2025, at Select Specialty Hospital at Mon Health System in Morgantown, WV. Born on September 30, 1940, in Gulfport, MS, he was the son to the late Eugene and Nettye Wilkinson Smith.

John's life was one of dedication to his family, his country, and his community. His devotion was evident in his loving marriage to Winabeth Allen Smith, with whom he built a rich tapestry of memories cherished by all who knew them. The proud father of sons, David Smith (Lynne) and Brian Smith; John instilled in his children the values of loyalty, perseverance, and compassion.

John served his country honorably in the US Navy, reflecting his unwavering bravery and patriotism.

Known for his courage, John approached life's challenges with resilience and strength, setting an inspiring example for all. His absence will leave a void in the hearts of those who loved him, yet his spirit remains a comforting presence.

In accordance with John's wishes, McCulla Funeral Home will be providing cremation services. Friends may gather at McCulla Funeral Home on Monday, October 20, 2025 from 10 am until 12 pm. His remains will find their final resting place at the West Virginia National Cemetery on Monday, October 20 at 1 pm where full military honors will be conferred.

The online guestbook at www.McCulla.com is open for those who wish to extend condolences to the Smith family. There, memories, stories, and messages of sympathy can be shared to celebrate the remarkable life of John Smith.
