John Spencer, age 70 of Dandridge, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at UT Medical Center, following a long battle with heart disease.

Born in Buffalo, New York, John’s family moved to Uvalde, Texas when he was a young boy. He was an auto enthusiast with a passion for drag racing and fast cars; having rebuilt his first car at the age of fifteen. According to family folklore, John also held the dubious distinction of having the most citations written at the same time in his town. His passion developed into a career in automotive repair and heavy equipment maintenance; and a sales job with Matco Tools. Medically retired, John and his wife moved to Tennessee in 2001 to escape the Texas heat. His daughter and son-in-law followed a few years later, moving in just down the street. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to John’s best friend & neighbor, Mike Punko, for always being there.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Norma & Charlie Crow; sister, Barbara Batot; and his son, Robert “Bobby” Spencer.

He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly fifty years, Cynthia Ann Spencer; daughter, Jennifer (Richard) Willis; grandson, Nathan Spencer; daughter-in-law, Kelly Spencer; siblings, Joe, Jeanie, Peggy, & Nancy; several nieces, nephews, extended family & friends. John also leaves behind his beloved pets, Spanky & Sassy; as well as his grand-dogs, Skyler & Shiloh.

A Celebration of Life will take place at 3PM Saturday, September 7, 2024 at Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association.
