John William Stearns III, lovingly known as Jay to friends and family, passed away on January 28, 2026, in Cartersville, Georgia, at the age of 61, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Jay was born on July 13, 1964 in Shreveport, Louisiana, to John William Stearns and Shirley Barney Stearns. Throughout his life, Jay was known for his kind heart, good nature, and gentle spirit. He found joy in the simple things, including comic books, NASCAR, classic television shows, and football. A devoted sports fan, he especially loved The Dallas Cowboys and The New Orleans Saints.

Jay is survived by his father, John William Stearns; his stepmother Donna Stearns; his sister, Roxane Stearns Cason; his stepbrother Keith Fontenot; and his stepsister Selena Fontenot Nicholson. He is also survived by his beloved nieces and nephews: Joshua Bush (Mariella), Meagan Bush Britt (Jerry), Sierra Wells (Dustin), Blade Fontenot, Blake Nicholson, and Candace Stavisky (Mark) along with nine cherished grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Barney Stearns; his sister, Camille Stearns; his brother-in-law George Cason; and his grandparents Elmer and Velma Barney.

Jay will be remembered as a kind, gentle, and good-hearted man whose warmth and quiet humor touched all who knew him. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
