On Tuesday, February 10, 2026, our beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather, Marion Louis Irick, Sr., entered his eternal heavenly home. Born on August 31, 1939, in
Bowman, South Carolina, Marion came into the world as a twin and grew up as the third eldest of eleven children born to the late Lawrence Jacob and Eula Ruth Jones Irick.
Marion's early years were shaped by hard work, family, and responsibility. He spent his mornings and evenings working alongside his father and siblings on the family farm, and even as a teenager he carried himself with a sense of duty-driving the school bus for the local high school he proudly graduated from in 1959.
Marion later married Betty Williams, and together they welcomed five children: Sandra Irick Perry, Marilyn Irick, Dedra Irick McMullen, Dexter Irick, and Marion Irick Jr. His love for them was quiet but unwavering, the kind of love you felt more than you heard. A second marriage to Fannie DuPre resulted in four stepchildren, Derrick (deceased), Donyell, James and Tammy, whom he also loved very much.
Anyone who knew Marion knew he was a gentle soul-a man of few words, but a heart full of steady kindness. He loved sports, especially baseball, and he poured that love into coaching his daughters' softball team. He coached with patience, humor, and the best talent he had, creating memories his children still hold close. Marion also played recreational softball in his spare time and had a passion for visiting casinos.
Marion worked for many years as a machinist at Beiersdorf International. After retiring, he moved to Washington, D.C., where he devoted himself to helping to care for his parents, Jacob and Eula, during their final years. That season of his life reflected who he truly was-loyal, dependable, and quietly devoted to the people he loved.
When his parents passed, Marion relocated to Georgia to be near his children. There, he embraced the role he cherished most: being a father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather. He spent his days surrounded by family, offering his presence, his gentle spirit, and the kind of love that holds a family together.
Marion leaves behind a legacy of humility, strength, and deep family roots. His life was simple in the most beautiful way-built on love, responsibility, and the quiet joy of being with the people who meant everything to him. He will be missed more than words can say, and remembered with gratitude, tenderness, and love.
Marion is preceded in death by his parents,Lawrence and Eula Ruth Irick, his brothers Bobby and Harvin , his sisters Shirley, Eula Lee and Verna. He is survived by his children, Sandra (Lynn), Marilyn, Dedra (Dan), Dexter, Marion Jr, and his stepchildren, Derrick (deceased), Donyell, James and Tammy (Chaka), his sisters Ernestine, Barbara, Patricia and Priscilla, his brother George (Donna) and Nathaniel Adams,brother-in-law (Verna), a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a great-great granddaughter and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends that will miss him dearly.
