Rick Irick, a devoted son and lifelong sports enthusiast, passed away on February 10, 2026, at the age of 70. Born on December 26, 1955, Rick grew up with an easy smile and an unwavering love for competition—whether he was watching it, playing it, or talking about it with anyone who shared his passion.
Sports were woven into the fabric of Rick’s life. He enjoyed them all, but baseball held a special place in his heart. In his youth he was on as many as 3 teams at the same time! He could recount classic games, legendary players, and unforgettable plays with the kind of detail that made you feel like you were right there in the stands beside him. His enthusiasm was contagious, and he never missed an opportunity to cheer on his favorite teams or share the joy of the game with others.
Rick was a thoughtful, giving person who didn’t hesitate to lend a hand whenever there was a need.
Rick is preceded in death by his mother, whom Rick was the primary care giver before her death in April 2025. He is also preceded in death by his father, Dale Irick, stepfather, Milton Hood Sr, and stepbrother, Rory Hood.
Rick is survived by his sister, Vicki Irick DeFord, stepbrothers Milton Hood Jr. and Rodney Hood, daughter Kelly Riley, along with uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He leaves behind family and friends who loved him dearly and will carry his memory forward with gratitude and affection.
Rick’s life was full of the simple joys that mattered most to him. His legacy lives on in the stories shared, the games watched, and memories he shared with all who cared for him.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until the service starts at 5:00 PM Friday, February 13, 2026 in the chapel of Mulkey-Bowles-Montgomery Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust St., Denton.
