John Patrick "Jack" Stengel, 78, of Louisville, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, September 15, 2025, at The Arcadia Independent Senior Living.

Born in Springfield, Illinois, Jack enjoyed a long career in computer and networking technologies. He retired from Humana as Vice President of Information Technology Services in 2012.

Jack was a beloved resident at Arcadia Independent Senior Living and brought smiles to everyone with his silly antics.

He spent much of his life in the service of others through numerous charitable organizations including Optimist Clubs of Hikes Point and Jeffersontown, Catholic Archdiocesan School Board, St. Edward Parish School Board, Boy Scouts, River Cities Corvette Club, Louisville Genealogical Society and Rotary Club of Prospect-Goshen.

Over the years, Jack loved to coach youth sports through The Optimist Clubs and St Edward, whether his children were playing or not.

In 2017, he became involved with the inception of Play Ball Puerto Rico, an organization dedicated to revitalizing communities through baseball by building/renovating fields and donating equipment and resources to get youth back on the field.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nicole Stengel, and his parents, Jack and Louise Stengel.

Jack is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Bernice Stengel; his son, Scott Stengel (Renee); his daughter, Angela Yelich (Michael); his sister, Patricia Louise Stengel; and his cherished grandsons, Benjamin, Jonah, and Jacob Stengel. He is also survived by Bernice's sister, Martha Muncy, her family and many lifelong friends.

A Celebration of Jack's Life will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2025, from 1–4 pm at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home, Jeffersontown, 10600 Taylorsville Road.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Play Ball Puerto Rico online at playballpr.com or by mail to 3518 Sorrento Ave., Louisville KY 40241

John was a great person to work for, and with. I first met him at the Humana spinoff, then rather than move to Nashville, we both switched to Humana. I was very happy he did that, and worked for him till he retired. It wasn't the same place after he did ( and not in a good way ). You all have my prayers for peace in the time of sadness.
