James Harold Stengel, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully Tuesday at 5:49 am, surrounded by his loving family.

He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 65 years, Mary Stengel (Wilcenski), who passed away on May 7, 2023, as well as his father, Harold James Stengel, and mother, Blanche Stengel (Herman).

James is survived by his children Cathy Bolan (Stengel), Cheri Wollum (Stengel), Christine Stengel, and David Stengel, who will forever cherish his love, humor, and gentle spirit.

James was a kind, loving, and gentle soul. His family was by his side as he made his journey home to be reunited with his beloved wife Mary-whom he missed deeply-and with all the family members and friends who went before him. In his final days, he spoke fondly of each of them as he reflected on a life filled with love and laughter.

Born and raised in Neva, Wisconsin, James grew up in a close-knit family that owned and operated a cheese factory. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of Specialist Third Class (SP3) Technician while stationed in Alaska, and was honorably discharged as a Specialist Fourth Class (SP4).

James will be remembered for his quick wit, gentle humor, and boundless kindness. He brought warmth and laughter to all who knew him and leaves behind a legacy of love, devotion, and strength that will live on in the hearts of his family forever.
