John "Denny" Stewart, 85, of Hickory passed away Thursday, September 16, 2021, at Townview Health and Rehabilitation Center, Canonsburg.
He was born September 10, 1936 in Woodrow, a son of the late Alvin and Alverda Powelson Stewart.
Denny attended Hickory High School. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1961- 1967. He began his career working as a painter for DeRose Research, where he spent 20 years and retired from National Draeger after 15 years of service.
John was an avid golfer and car enthusiast, known for always having the newest, most up to date model.
He loved attending his grandsons sporting events, where "Pap" could always be found at the concession stand eating hot dogs.
Left behind to cherish his memory is his daughter Tia Krah of McDonald; son Brian (Reba) Stewart of Fort Mills, S.C.; grandsons Brandon Chiera, Cade and Brody Krah, Dustin (Kristin) Stewart, and Kevin (Katie) Stewart; and great-grandchildren Bricyn, Aubrey, and Lovey Stewart.
Deceased in addition to his parents are; his companion for over 40 years Brenda Zanakis; daughter Karen Stewart; brothers Richard and James Stewart; and son-in-law Rick Krah.
Friends and family are welcome from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 21, at Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra LFD owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg 724-745-8120, where funeral services will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 22.
Interment will follow at 12:30 p.m., at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil, with full military honors by the United States Army and the VFW Post 191 Honor Guard.
