John E. Stone, age 74, of Creal Springs, IL, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at his home.

He was born on May 14, 1951, in Herrin, IL, to Eugene and Nadine (Shanks) Stone.

John grew up in Marion and was a graduate of Marion High School Class of 1969.

He married Deborah Kay Grimes on December 31, 1970 and to this union three children were born.

John was a lifetime coal miner and farmer. During his final working years of working in the mines he was employed at the Brushy Creek Coal Mine. After retirement, John drove a truck for a number of years. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the UMWA, Saline Masonic Lodge #339, Marion VFW, Okeechobee Moose Lodge #1753 in Okeechobee, FL, the Marion Eagles and Marion Elks Lodge #800. John loved working on tractors and farm equipment, fishing and hunting, and going to flea markets. He enjoyed traveling to Florida to his home in Okeechobee. Most of all he enjoyed time spent with his family creating wonderful memories.

Survivors include his sons, Ray Stone and Paul Stone, both of Marion; daughter, Jeri (Brian) Carter of Marion; sister, Debbie Ann Stone (Steve Larsson) of Lake of Egypt; and cousins, Bob Shadowens, Janet Boan, and Paula Danby.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Dixon Roberts.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 North Court Street, Marion, IL.

A time of visitation will be at Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, on Friday, March 13, 2026 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

Masonic rites will be accorded at 10:30 a.m.

Following the visitation and masonic rites, the memorial service will at 11:00 a.m. with Bob Shadowens presiding.

Inurnment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery of Marion, IL.

For those who prefer, the family has requested memorial contributions be directed to "Residential Hospice." Contribution envelopes will be available at the funeral home or may be mailed c/o Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 North Court Street, Marion, IL 62959.
