John C. Strickroot
August 4, 1932 November 18, 2024
John C. Strickroot, a distinguished attorney, community leader, and devoted family man, passed away peacefully at his home in Pinecrest, Florida, on November 18, 2024, at the age of 92. He was surrounded by his loving family in his final moments.
Born on August 4, 1932, in Detroit, Michigan, to Frederick and Marguerite Strickroot, John spent his childhood in Detroit and Palm Beach, Florida.
His pursuit of excellence was evident from an early age, culminating in his magna cum laude graduation from the University of Notre Dame, where he was also an athlete on the wrestling team. He further honed his intellect at the University of Florida Law School, where he graduated cum laude and served as editor of the Symposium Law Review.
John's legal career began with service to his country in the United States Air Force Judge Advocate General's Corps, where he distinguished himself as a litigator. Following his service, he embarked on an illustrious 57-year law career with Fowler White Burnett. There, he left an indelible mark by establishing the firm's General Practice Department, serving as Managing Partner, and ultimately retiring as President in 2020.
His expertise and leadership extended beyond the legal field into prominent organizations, including serving on the boards of Fiduciary Trust and the Archdiocese of Greater Miami. He also served as Past President of the University of Miami Citizens Board, the Bankers Club, and the Executives Association of Greater Miami.
Beyond his professional achievements, John was deeply committed to his community. He was a devoted parishioner of the Church of the Little Flower and a member of the Knights of Columbus where his faith and dedication inspired many.
John's commitment to excellence was matched only by his devotion to family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, and his first wife and mother of his children, Aimee J. Strickroot. He is survived by his beloved wife, Blair C. Strickroot; his children, John C. Strickroot, Jr. (Mildred) and Susan Strickroot Adams (John); his adoring grandchildren, John C. Strickroot III (Nina), Sara Strickroot Nigro (Ross), and Mary Catherine Adams (Olaf Brienne); and his great-grandchild, Owen C. Strickroot.
John's life was a testament to the power of hard work, integrity, and compassion. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
A funeral mass service celebrating John's life will be held at the Church of the Little Flower on November 22, 2024, at 11:30 AM.
