John Stromquist Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Thomas B. Dobies Funeral Home & Crematory - Hudson on Dec. 15, 2025.
John Carl Stromquist, 95, of Hudson, Florida passed away on December 12, 2025, at Dr. Jay Weil Center for Hospice Care in New Port Richey, FL.

John was born on November 14, 1930 in Rockford, Illinois to Carl and Ruth Stromquist. He married his beloved wife, Marian, in 1954, who preceded him in death last year.

After graduating from East High School in Rockford, Illinois, he proudly served in the United States Navy from 1949 to1953, as a hospital corpsman on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt Aircraft Carrier. Following his service, he worked as a Rockford Illinois Police Officer from 1954 to 1981 and then became a full time farmer raising Columbia and Katahdin sheep on White Post Farm in Durand, Illinois. He was a member of the Katahdin Sheep Association and a sheep judge in the USA, Mexico and Canada. He was an active 4-H leader and part of the VFW, the Rockford Police Benevolent and Protective Association, and the Lion's Club. He was proud to be named Winnebago County (Illinois) Conservation Family of the Year in 1973.

John and Marian were seasonal Florida residents for four years before selling their farm and moving to Florida in 2014.

John loved people, the Ohio State Buckeyes football team, traveling the world, his animals (most recently his dog Woody), and sharing his life stories. He greatly enjoyed his Hudson neighborhood friends who became like family to him. He was also grateful for his church family at Spirit of Grace Lutheran Church in Hudson, FL.

John is survived by his daughters Jill (Richard) Schraiber of FL and Karen Sargent of WA; grandchildren Annika Welsh and Jonathan Sargent of WA; foreign exchange daughter Nuria (Victor) of Costa Rica: daughter-in-law Susan Stromquist Nelson of AZ; sister Joyce Kennedy of IL, brother Jerry Stromquist of IL and sister Judi (Dan) Pivoras of IL; as well as many friends and family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian; his son, Steven: sister Joan Swenson and grandson Anthony.

Memorial services will be held at Dobies Funeral Home in Hudson, FL on Tuesday, January 13,2026 at 2 pm..
