John William Sullenberger Jr was born on August 24, 1942, to John William Sullenberger Sr and Evelynn Louise Sullenberger in Harrishurg Pennsylvania.
John was the first born of five children with four younger sisters, Evelynn Gates, Joyce Luttenberger, Carol Azpeitia and Doris Hauver. John enlisted into the Air Force and was stationed at Vandenburg Air Force Base in California. While serving in the Air Force he met and married Barbara. John and Barb had three children, John Sullenberger III, Craig Sullenberger and Erica Boyer. Sullenberger's settled in Simi Valley in the late 60's and lived there for over 30 years. John received his bachelor's degree from CSUN and worked most of his career for Rockwell International/Boeing.
John was a huge sports fan, a travel enthusiast, a man that was likely to be found tasting new beers or wine whenever possible, also liked working word or number puzzles, was deeply concerned about the wellbeing of his family and always scheduling time for the next family event. John was preceded in death by his mother Evelynn Sullenberger, sisters Evelynn Gates and Joyce Luttenberger, sons John Sullenberger III and Craig Sullenberger and his cousin/best friend Earl Williams.
John in survived by his wife of nearly 62 years Barbara Sullenberger daughter Erica Boyer, grandsons Richard Pierson and Brandon Boyer, and sisters Carol Azpeitia and Doris Hauver, John passed away peacefully on July 6. 2025, surrounded by his wife and daughter.
