John F. Tampasis, co-owner of Dallas Hot Wieners, passed away peacefully on Friday September 12, 2025 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 2, 1939 in Episkopi, Greece.

In Greece, John was a guitarist and photographer. He was also a veteran of the Greek National Airforce, where he served as a photographer for two years. He immigrated to the United States in 1968 and purchased Dallas Hot Wieners in Kingston, NY with his partner, Spyros Pappas (deceased) in 1975, where he worked until retirement. John loved dinners out with his family, traveling to Aruba with his beloved wife, Voula, making people laugh, and adored his five grandchildren. He was a gentleman who will truly be missed.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Voula Tampasis, two children, Fotios "Fred" Tampasis and his wife Jennifer of Kingston, Maria Maritsas and her husband Nick of Kingston, his grandchildren, Hannah, Madeleine, Chloe, Anastasia, and Georgia, and his siblings, Aliki, George, Margarita, and Kosta. Many of his nieces and nephews also survive.

He was predeceased by his parents, Fotios and Anastasia, as well as siblings Alexandra, Demitri, and Antigone.

John was a wonderful person. He welcomed everyone who came into the store and always had a gentle way about him. He will be missed.

A longtime customer

September 15, 2025

John set an example that was passed down not only to his son but to everyone at Dallas on how to treat a customer always with the smile and a thank you. He was probably the kindest business person in all of uptown Kingston always asked about your family and every conversation was with a smile. Rest in peace and thank you for the Tootsie roll.

To the Tampasis Family: We were so sorry to learn of John's passing. He and his wife were always together and from time to time we would see them in the Saugerties Dallas Texas Hot Weiner shop. Our deepest sympathy to his family at this very sad time. May he rest in peace as he worked very hard his whole life. He will be surely missed by those who knew and loved him. Sincerely, Elaine & Dennis Ferraro
