John Tapia Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tabor Funeral Home and Cremation Services - Brighton on Sep. 22, 2025.
John Paul Tapia, Jr., of Thornton, Colorado, passed away on September 16, 2025, in Longmont, Colorado, at the age of 68. He was born on July 18, 1957, in Rocky Ford, Colorado, to John Tapia, Sr. and Carol Cruz. He was the grandson of Guadalupe and Elvira Tapia, who preceded him in death.

John, lovingly known as Paul, was the proud owner of his own business, Tapia Painting. He was an unbelievable painter who strived for perfection in every project he touched. Known for his skill, attention to detail, and dedication, Paul's work left a mark on many homes and buildings in the community. He was always willing to lend a hand, especially when it came to helping his family paint their houses, which he did with love and care.

Paul is survived by his father Juan (Vivian) Tapia and his mother Carol Cruz. He is also survived by his loving companion Donna Hernandez; her children Leon Hernandez, James Hernandez, Christopher Chavez, and LeAnn Hernandez; and his beloved and favorite granddaughter, Leena Hernandez.

He is further survived by his siblings: Leroy (Janet) Tapia; Teresa (Mike) Baird; Janice Esparza, wife of the late Conrad Esparza; Roman (Sonia) Cruz; Stephanie (Danny) Marfil; Tabitha Tapia; and Jesse Cruz. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joe Tapia.

In addition, Paul is survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly. He also shared a very special friendship with Kyle Brown, who was one of his closest confidants in life.

Paul will be remembered not only for his craft and work ethic but also for his generosity, humor, and devotion to his family. He took pride in everything he did and brought joy, laughter, and love to those around him.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at Tabor Funeral Home Chapel, 75 S. 13th Avenue, Brighton, Colorado 80601. A burial ceremony will follow at Hillside Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate Paul's life and the lasting legacy he leaves behind.
