John Patrick Anthony Tarpey Known as "Jack" January 19, 1940 – June 1, 2025
Jack Tarpey, 85, formerly of New Rochelle, NY, and Greenwich, CT, passed away peacefully at home in Alpharetta, GA, on June 1, 2025, surrounded by his beloved wife, Jill, and his son, Michael.
Born on January 19, 1940, to the late William and Marie (Quigley) Tarpey, Jack was a natural athlete from an early age. His talent and drive led him all the way to professional football with the New York Giants-a source of great pride and adventure in his life. Even after retiring from the sport, Jack's competitive spirit remained strong. He was often found shooting hoops at the local YMCA-his favorite hangout-where he was affectionately known as "Tar Bubba." If you were looking for Jack, the Y was a good place to start.
In 2001, Jack relocated to Georgia, where he deepened his love of golf. He went on to win numerous tournaments, often alongside his cousin, dear friend, and favorite partner, John Tierney.
A graduate of the University of Colorado, Jack was an entrepreneur through and through. Over the years, he built a wide-ranging career, owning businesses from nightclubs and bars to home renovation ventures. He also enjoyed great success in real estate, selling luxury properties in Greenwich's Conyers Farm-some to notable clients, including Ron Howard. Jack was always in motion, always thinking ahead-"no grass grew under his feet."
Jack's greatest joy came from his family. He was predeceased by his daughter, Carolyn Rose Tarpey. He is survived by his wife, Jill; his daughter, Kimberly (Frank) Saetta; his son, Michael (Rafael Reynoso) Tarpey; and his stepchildren, Stewart (Katie) Oakes and Sara (Fedencio) Treviño. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Nicholas, Alyssa, Henry, Connor, Emmy, Lucas, and Gabriel. His extended family-including the Coynes, Tierneys, and Quigleys-held a special place in his heart throughout his life.
The family offers heartfelt thanks to Bob Coyne for his help with final arrangements, and to Johndarius Aiken, whose devoted care made him part of the family.
