John Taylor Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Blake Funeral Home - Loogootee on Feb. 27, 2026.
John W. Taylor, 67, of Loogootee, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2026 at Deaconess Memorial Center in Jasper, Indiana.

He was born in Washington, Indiana on March 13, 1958, the beloved son of Donald Ray and Juanita Mae (Davis) Taylor. On November 10, 1979, he married Lea Ann Burton, and she survives.

John graduated from Loogootee High School in 1976, where he still holds a track record. During his time there, he played basketball for Coach Jack Butcher and competed on the cross-country team. He was a devoted member of Our Lady of Hope in Washington and lovingly made rosaries for family and friends, often for First Communion and Confirmation ceremonies. Throughout his working life, John held several positions. He worked primarily at Midwest Printing before moving to North American in Jasper, where he made saw blades. He also worked as a welder for RT's Welding in Washington. John was known as an avid fan of Star Trek and Star Wars. He also cherished time spent outdoors, especially fishing and camping.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Lea Ann and their daughters: Brianna (James Russell) Taylor, Mikayla (Logan) Eirwin; his grandchildren: Anna, Jeremiah, Josephine, and Dante; his siblings: Paul (Mindy) Taylor, Neina (Mike) Engleman, Greg (Lisa) Taylor, Debby (Greg) Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Very Rev. J. Kenneth Walker at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Loogootee, Indiana, with burial to follow in St. John Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on the same day from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Martin Co. Humane Society or St. Vincent de Paul. Condolences may be made online at www.blakefuneralhomes.com
