John Fredrick Teagle, a longtime Putnam County resident, formerly of New York City and Ohio, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx following a courageous two year battle with cancer. He was 66.
Son of the late Phillip and Mary (Witty) Teagle, he was born in Akron, OH on February 6, 1957.
John loved music and was an accomplished guitarist, having performed in bands such as Purple kNif and The Walking Clampetts. Widely known and respected for his vast knowledge of electric guitars and tube amplification, John authored books on the history of Fender amplifiers and Washburn guitars. He also played bass drum for the Hudson Highlands Pipe Band.
John cherished the natural landscape of the Hudson River Valley. As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hiking throughout the region and was proud to have traveled the Appalachian Trail from Connecticut to New Jersey. He was dedicated to environmental conservation and was a caretaker and board secretary of Little Stony Point Citizens Association. For nearly 20 years, John worked in maintenance and events at the Garrison Institute.
On April 1, 2018, he married Mary (Dixon) Teagle in Akron, OH. Mary survives at home in Garrison.
Additional survivors include his daughter, Cassidy Heulitt & her husband Addison; his stepchildren, Catherine Breck (John Scanlon) granddaughter, Hazel Colon, Eamon O. Dougherty, and Reilly Dougherty (Dawson Steeber); his siblings, Paul Teagle and spouse Laura Zeller Teagle, Judy Jamison and spouse Bob Jamison, and Laura Teagle Evans; as well nieces and nephews Alex, Aidan, Mike, Molly, Jenny, Danni, David, Meghan and Melanie, special friends Henry Garcia and Nick Poholchuk, other relatives & friends.
The family would also like to thank the caring and committed staff at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, especially Doctors Paul Chapman and Alex Shoushtari, for their care of John during his treatment there.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

My condolences to the Teagle family. John and I were playing the clubs around Akron during the same time period. It was always a pleasure to run into him at one of them. I've thought about him often over the years. He was one of the truly good guys and will be missed.

My heart goes out to John's family, friends, coworkers, and basically everyone who ever chanced upon his acquaintance. He was one of the most beautiful, inside and out, people that I ever had the pleasure to call friend. His absence on this plane will be sorely missed, but the inspiration and influence that he gifted us will live on.

There is no one ever in our lives who could come close to John Teagle. He was a giant. He knew stuff that we are trying to catch up on and will try our entire lives. Our hearts are breaking and we send our deepest sympathies to everyone who knew and loved him, but especially to Mary, Cassidy, Paul, and family.

John was my friend, my muse, my confidant. He was selfless and lighthearted. He is gone much too soon and I will miss him very much. May his memory be forever blessed.

I had the pleasure of working with John for several years at the Garrison Institute. John was a humble, funny, caring man who always brought a positive attitude to his work. My condolences to the extended Teagle family. RIP John, & keep on rockin'.
