John Robert Thall, age 91 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, passed away in the early morning on Friday, March 8, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Jersey City, NJ, January 5, 1933, he was the son of the late Howard and Ellen (Schafer) Thall. One of eight siblings, he was raised in Cranford, NJ and lived there until adulthood.
In 1950, Mr. Thall began his service in the newly formed United States Air Force during the Korean War. He would eventually go on to attain the rank of Technical Sergeant before his honorable discharge in 1955. After his service, he lived for a brief time in Winfield Park, NJ. Soon after, he went on to reside in the Belle Mead section of Hillsborough Township, NJ from 1959-1994. There, he and his late wife, Bertha, raised their family.
John was formerly employed as a salesman for Shanahan's Stationery & Office Equipment in Branchburg, NJ selling office supplies. He was also a man of strong Catholic faith, and a long-time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, East Millstone, NJ. Quite plainly, his family will remember him as a quiet and simple man and above all, "a good dad".
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, the late Bertha Ann Thall, who died in 1986. Additionally, he was preceded in death by five siblings: Charlotte, Howard, Raymond, Frank, and Joyce.
Surviving are his four children, John Allen Thall (Susan) of Palm Coast, FL, Patricia Ann Yaple (Mark) of Ewing Township, NJ, Robert Wayne Thall (Donna) of Aurora, WV, and David James Thall (Christopher) of Lake Worth Beach, FL; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eleanor, and Beatrice "Bea"; as well as his companion later in life, Mary Fobert of Flemington, NJ.
A visitation will take place on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, from 3:00-7:00 PM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ 08822. Mass of Christian Burial will proceed the next morning, Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at 10:00 AM in the St. Magdalen de Pazzi Roman Catholic Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment, with military honors, will follow at the family plot in Rocky Hill Cemetery, Montgomery Avenue, Rocky Hill, NJ 08553 and conclude the services.
