John S. Thoma, 76, of Penn Twp, passed away Monday, February 9, 2026 at home. He was born March 22, 1949 in Welzheim, Germany, son of the late Frank and Rose (Schieszl) Thoma. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Dorothy Thoma.
He was a veteran of the US Army, having served in Germany. He was a proud graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned a bachelor degree in psychology and business. Prior to retirement, he worked for Verizon for over 44 years.
John enjoyed skiing, casinos, family vacations at the beach with his kids and grandchildren flying kites. John was a handy man, who was always up for a good time and wanted everyone around him to be happy. He was a devoted husband, loving father and his grandkids were his everything.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Janice (Germanoski) Thoma; his son, Seth (Kristy) Thoma; his daughter, Lindsay (Justin) Emmett; four grandchildren, Lily, Benjamin, Annika, and Jonas. He is also survived by two brothers, Frank Thoma, Jr.; Joseph (Marlene) Thoma; a special cousin, Mary Majewski; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was very blessed to have a loving and close relationship with the entire Germanoski family.
At John's request, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be private at National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, Pa. Memorial contributions may be made, if desired, to the St. Barbara's Food Bank, 111 Ramaley Road, Harrison City, Pa 15636.
