John Bernard Thompson III, born on March 22, 1948, was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He passed away peacefully at the age of 77 on July 23, 2025, in Morongo Valley, CA.
John was a devoted husband to Lana, with whom he shared 30 years of love, laughter, and unwavering partnership. Together, they created a meaningful life embracing the quiet beauty of desert living and finding joy in caring for birds and animals that visited their yard.
Those who knew John will remember his unwavering devotion to the Dodgers. From his early days playing the game to a lifetime spent cheering from the stands or his living room, baseball was more than a pastime-it was a part of who he was. Watching a ballgame brought him genuine joy, and his love for the sport remained constant throughout his life. He also had a fondness for vintage films, along with a love for science fiction and horror movies.
In his career as an Art Director for Palm Springs Life Magazine, he was responsible for shaping the visual style and layout, bringing stories to life.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lana; sister Sharon (Don) Dykes; brother Craig (Ariel) Thompson; daughter Lisa (Anthony) Silva; stepsons Scott (Jean) Aikin and Sean (Kelly) Aikin; and adored grandchildren; Mikayla, Luke and Laci Silva; Benjamin, Shepherd, Jasper and Olivia Aikin.
John will be remembered for his kind heart, quick wit, and deep love for family. He enjoyed music, especially The Beatles, The Stones and Elvis and never ended a phone call without his signature farewell, "Rock and roll!"
