John Tobin Obituary

With immense love and profound sadness, the family of John H. Tobin shares that he passed away on November 22nd, surrounded by his beloved wife and children. John faced his illness with the same courage, humor, and grace that defined his life, and he left this world with the people he cherished most by his side.

John is predeceased by his devoted parents, Edward and Mary Tobin, and by his sister, Mary Francis Tobin. He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia P. Tobin, and his adoring children-Molly (Carson Milner), Liam, Sean, and Rory-who were the great joy and pride of his life. He also leaves behind his siblings, Gerard Tobin(Michelle), Sally McCarthy, and Kathy Tobin, along with many nieces and nephews; his Poole in-laws, who welcomed him with open arms from a young age; and countless treasured friends from every chapter of his life.

Anyone who knew John will forever remember his unwavering devotion to family, his unforgettable sense of humor and one-of-a-kind colloquialisms, and his remarkable gift for storytelling. His wit, warmth, and ability to make people feel seen and loved will live on in the memories of all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Born and raised in Massachusetts, John attended St. Joseph's School in Needham, Catholic Memorial High School in West Roxbury, and Fordham University. Though he built a successful career in finance and spent nearly forty years in New York, he never stopped proudly calling himself a Bostonian.

While John cherished the friendships he made throughout his life, his true passion-and the heart of his life-was his family. Nothing brought him more joy than time spent with his children: on the ski slopes, at the beach, on the sidelines of soccer, baseball, and basketball games, or simply gathered together at home. He loved a fine cigar, a good biography, and could quote a line from nearly any movie.

John will be remembered for his extraordinary writing, quick wit, and the boundless love he shared so freely. His presence, his voice, and his laughter will be deeply missed, but the legacy he leaves-in the people he loved and who loved him-will endure forever.
