John Rufus Tollison

John Rufus Tollison, 85, resident of Corrie Court, husband of Sylvia Aliene Rowe Hall Tollison, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at his home.

Born October 31, 1938, in Laurens, SC, he was a son of the late Jesse Steven and Verina Melton Tollison. A 1958 graduate of Hickory Tavern High School, he was a US Air Force Veteran and retired from Connie Maxwell Children's Home after 44 years of loving care and devotion.

He was a member of Connie Maxwell Baptist Church. John was active member of the Greenwood Bee Keeper Club.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Sylvia Tollison of the home are a son, Jimmy (Joy) Tollison of Ninety Six; two daughters, Janet Marie Bailey (Walter) of Winston Salem, NC and Alicia Gardener (William) of Orange, Australia; a step-daughter, Gwen Hall of Saluda; two sisters, Callie Norris (Tony) of Anderson and Alice Nell Kuester (Bob) of Austin, TX; a brother, David Tollison of Hickory Tavern; two grandchildren, John Tyler Martin of Atlanta and Lily Tindall of Australia; and a sister-in-law, Mary Tollison of Laurens.

John was predeceased by three brothers, Steven, Billy and Ben Tollison.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 AM Friday at Connie Maxwell Baptist Church with Rev. Chuck Sprouse and Rev. Ken Freeman officiating.

Burial will follow at Connie Maxwell Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors.

Pallbearers will be Tim Dillard, Tim Wines, Marvin Dangerfield, Eric Taylor, Brad Martin, and John Tyler Martin.

The family is at the home on Corrie Court will receive friends at the church from 10:00 - 11:30 Friday morning.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Connie Maxwell Children's Home, 810 Maxwell Avenue Greenwood, SC 29646.
