John Townsend Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hedges-Scott-Millard Funeral Homes and Lake Memorial Gardens - Osage Beach on Mar. 30, 2026.
John Wayne Townsend, 73, of Eldon, MO passed away on Friday, March 20, 2026, surrounded by his family at University Hospital in Columbia, MO.

John was born November 4, 1952, in Kansas City, KS the son of Charles and Rita (Lippert) Townsend who preceded him in death. He was a 1971 graduate of Bishop Ward High School in Kansas City, KS. On August 5, 2020, he was united in marriage to Donna Zellner in Eldon, MO.

John spent much of his career working as a dedicated manager for the Lodge of Four Seasons, where he was respected for his friendly nature. After many years of hard work, he retired from Thompson Janitorial Services in Jefferson City, MO.

A lifelong sports fan, John rarely missed a Kansas City Chiefs game and proudly cheered on the Kansas Jayhawks basketball team as well. He loved being outdoors, often spending time tending to his yard or fishing at his favorite spot. He could also be found playing games on his tablet or sharing laughs with family and friends.

Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought endless happiness to his life.

Survivors include: his wife, Donna Townsend; three sons, Patrick Reed, Tyler Wickham (Kelci) and Craig Townsend (Alexus); one adopted son, Nathan Otto (Aimee); two brothers, David Townsend (Marie) and Garry Laws (Alyson); two sisters, Donna Pottier (John) and Jan Ross and seven grandchildren, Cash, Rylee, Hallie, Kennedy, Finlee, Willow and Natalee. He was also preceded in death by his step-father, Edward "Pops" Laws and one brother, Carl Townsend.

Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
