John William Turechek, 76, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2025 peacefully at home (his last wish) with his significant other, Mary, at his side along with a close friend, Kim Jalbert. John was born in Bridgeport, CT, the youngest child of Joseph and Pearl (Nowell) Turechek. He was educated in the Stratford Connecticut school system, before joining the United States Navy in 1966. In the 1960’s, John did a tour of duty in Vietnam with the US Navy Seabees.
Following his military service John became a long haul truck driver hauling potatoes from Caribou to Florida, and hauling watermelon and oranges from Florida all up the east coast on his way back to Caribou. Caribou became his choice to spend his later years, but not before spending 10 plus years in Vermont as a firefighter/EMT.
John is survived by his loving significant other and caregiver, Mary Pinette, one daughter, Lisa Turechek of Colorado, a brother, Joseph of New York, a sister, Janet Findley of Connecticut, 4 grandchildren, and 2 great- grandchildren, his fur babies, Buddy and Babe, and his many friends.
