Obituary
John D. Turner, 70, of Denver, Colorado passed away on March 18, 2022. John was born to John H. and Margie Ann Turner in The Dalles, Oregon on August 21, 1951.
Following high school, he took some college classes before joining the Navy. While in the Navy John met and married his wife, Nellie M. Turner. He held many positions and moved several times in Colorado and Minnesota before coming back to Denver in 1988. That is when he decided to stay permanently close to family. At this time, he become a mail clerk at the Lowry Defense Center where he later retired from.
John's favorite things to do were making gifts out of leather, teaching children chess, reading at mass, and volunteering with the Catholic church.
John LOVED hunting, fishing, and camping completely off the grid at Oak Creek and Red Dirt Reservoir. Not only did he teach his kids/nephews his techniques; he also shared them with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, TOPS, and a bowling league for many years. He was an honored Knight and had been awarded TOPS King in '92.
John is survived by his beloved wife Nellie Turner; children Tanya (Gino) Rivera, Troy (Angel) Turner; grandchildren Salvador M. Rivera (Casey Troy Simoes), Brooklyn Rivera (Ryan Bernal), Larissa Rivera, KC Turner, Trevor Turner, Mackenzie Loman; great-granddaughter Arabella Rivera; siblings Nolan (Linda) Turner, LouAnn Lupo, Janine Turner (Tony Hernandez), Doyle Turner, Loren Turner, Bill (Christine) Workman and many nieces and nephews. John was proceeded in death by his parents John and Margie Turner; siblings Bruce Turner and Jeremy Turner.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 29th at 5pm with a Rosary following at 6pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Parish located at 2200 S Logan Street, Denver, CO 80210. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 30th at 11am at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Parish located at 2200 S Logan Street, Denver, CO 80210.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a memorial donation in John's memory to Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
