John Christopher "JT" Turner, age 61, passed away on September 17, 2025, in Columbus, Ohio after a short battle with lung cancer. Born on December 15, 1963, in Ashtabula, Ohio, to Dorothy Turner-Newman and Charles Staples, John brought warmth, laughter, and a deep sense of loyalty to all who knew him. John recommitted his life to Christ on September 8, 2025. John was a charismatic and fun-loving individual who embraced life with enthusiasm and heart. Known for his down-to-earth nature and unwavering support for those around him, he was someone people could count on—whether it was family needing a helping hand or friends looking for a good time. His presence lit up every room he entered.

In February 2017, John earned his Associate of Applied Science in Network Systems Administration, a testament to his determination and commitment to personal growth later in life. His pursuit of education reflected the same drive and passion he brought to every aspect of his life. His commitment to bettering himself was evident throughout his life.

A passionate bowler and community leader, John co-founded the Big Dawg's bowling league in Columbus alongside Billy Heglar. As President of the league for 20 years, he nurtured its growth into a thriving community that continues to flourish today. His leadership not only shaped the league but also created lasting friendships and memories for countless participants.

Beyond bowling, John enjoyed playing cards and dominoes—games that often brought together laughter, competition, and camaraderie. But above all else, he cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. Whether cheering them on or simply sharing stories and smiles, John's love for his family was evident at every moment.

He is lovingly remembered by his children: son DeAntwon Coleman, Chicago, IL; daughter Alecia (Robert) Austin, Columbus, OH.; and son DeAnton Failla, Woodstock, IL. He leaves behind six grandchildren: Kennedy Austin, Robert Austin Jr., Christopher Austin, Fox Failla, and Kenley Failla. Also mourning his loss are his siblings: brother Robert (Donna) Turner, Midwest City, OK; sister Ethel Turner, Chicago, IL; and brother James "Huggy" Turner of Ashtabula, OH. He is also survived by two Aunts, Ella Fox of Youngstown, OH. and Annie Jane Turner of Ashtabula, OH. Additionally, John is survived by several first cousins and a host of nieces and nephews. JT had a special bond with his cousin Michelle Clark.

John was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy Ann Turner-Newman and father Charles Staples.

John’s legacy lives on through the many lives he touched- with laughter at the bowling alley, wisdom shared over card games, or quiet moments spent with loved ones. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire joy and connection in their lives.
