John VanHorn Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Molden Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service on Mar. 19, 2026.
John James Van Horn Jr., a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2026, in Bristol, PA. Born in Chester, PA, on February 11, 1943, John's life was marked by a generous spirit, thoughtfulness, and a wonderful sense of humor.

John proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War, a time that shaped much of his early years. Upon returning home, he embarked on a career as an insulator with Local #14, from which he retired after many years of dedicated service. John's work ethic and amicable nature left a lasting impression on his colleagues and those he served.

A man of varied interests, John will be fondly remembered for his loyalty to Notre Dame Football, a passion that rivaled his dedication to expanding an impressive coin collection. It was in these pursuits that John's funny and generous personality shone brightly, creating cherished memories with friends and family.

John was predeceased by his loving wife, Leslie Mae Van Horn, who was the cornerstone of his life until her passing. He was also preceded in death by his parents, John James Van Horn and Kathryn Bagley, and his siblings Ruth, Joan, Jesse, Mary, Harry, Albert, and William Van Horn. His legacy is carried on by his brothers Lawrence (Maria), Thomas (Evelyn), Richard (Joanne), his sister Joyce Harley (Edward), and his sons, Benjamin (Arlene) and John James Van Horn III.

The family chain also held strong in the bonds he shared with his adored grandchildren, Delaney, Dustin, Dylan, Casey, and Lynnsey Van Horn. Each of them brought immense joy to John, a joy that he returned tenfold through his thoughtful and funny ways.

John's life story is one of commitment-to his country, his work, and most importantly, to the people he loved. The cherished memories he leaves behind will continue to inspire and comfort those who had the honor of knowing him. His generous and funny nature will be sorely missed, but never forgotten.

As we celebrate John's life, we are reminded of the impact one individual can make through simple acts of kindness and a lifetime of heartfelt laughter. John James Van Horn Jr. will be deeply missed, yet his legacy of love and laughter will forever resonate with us all.
