John Edward Vausbinder, 92, of Topeka, passed away on January 22, 2026.
He was born on June 1, 1933 to Charles and Corina (Harris) Vausbinder in Topeka, Kansas. John graduated from Topeka High School in 1951.
John proudly served in the United States Air Force. After his military service, he went on to work for Santa Fe Railroad until retiring as a General Supervisor of Computer Operations.
On November 27, 1954, he married Mary Ellen Long and they lived in Topeka, Kansas. John and Mary Ellen celebrated nearly 70 years of marriage. Together they had 4 children, 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. John enjoyed working in his yard, restoring cars, family traditions, going to the casino and most of all spending time with family and friends.
John is survived by daughter, Tammi (Raymond) Ayala; son in law, Mike (Karla) Mosher; daughter, Tracye (Jeff) Scheidegger; son, Trent (Kim) Vausbinder; grandchildren, Christopher, Angela (Isauro) and Daniel (Laura) Ayala, Shawn (Sarah) Mosher, Jenny (Nick) Stroup, Alex (Melissa) and Bailey (Josh) Scheidegger, Sierra (Evan) Hennessy, Jake (Kelsi) Kresin and Katye (Connor) Norris; great grandchildren, Alec Gray, Camryn (Jared) Esquibel, Sydney Serrano, Jameson Steinbock, Ava, Finn and Piper Ayala, Keely and Caden Mosher, Harper and Parker Stroup and Jordan and Hunter Scheidegger.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; siblings, Chuck, Annie and Walt; daughter, Trina Mosher; and great granddaughter, Blake Scheidegger.
The family will greet friends at 10:00am Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at Mount Hope Cemetery & Funeral Chapel followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 am.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Blake Strong Foundation sent in care of Penwell-Gabel Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, 1321 W. 10th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66604.
