John Paul Wahwassuck Jr. III, 56, of Mayetta, KS, passed away Friday, September 19, 2025 at the St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, KS. He was born December 20, 1968 in Holton, KS the son of Johnnie Paul Wahwassuck Sr. II, and Roberta Stella (Lucei). He graduated from the Kickapoo Nation High School. He earned his Heavy Equipment Operator License from Beloit, KS and he later would earn a degree from Washburn Tech in Electrical Engineering.

He is a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and he was member of the Drum Religion.

Survivors include his mother, Roberta of the home; two brothers, Ronnie Thomas Sr. of Warm Springs, OR, and Larry Picard of Mayetta, KS; five sisters, Sandra Lee Moroyoqui of Lincoln City, OR, Pam Simon (Bill) of Horton, KS, Theresa Hutchinson (Dan) of Canterbury, NH, Lorrie Melchior (Jonathan) of Mayetta, KS and Ahnah Wahwassuck (Robert Griffith Sr.) of Mayetta, KS

He was preceded in death by his father Johnnie P. Wahwassuck Sr. II, two sisters, Debbie Lucei and Roberta Audra Wahwassuck; two brothers, Layton Abbott and Edwin Thomas Sr.

Drum services will be Monday evening, September 22, 2025 at the Danceground Building, west of Mayetta, KS. Burial will be in the Prairie Peoples Cemetery Tuesday afternoon, September 23, 2025. Mercer Funeral Home in Holton is in charge of arrangements.
