John R. Wainwright

John R. Wainwright, age 80, of Hanover, formerly of York New Salem, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2022 at Columbia Cottage in Hanover. He was the loving husband of Patricia M. (Goodfellow) Wainwright; together they shared 53 years of marriage.
John was born in Brooklyn, NY and was the son of the late Ronald and Mary (Work) Wainwright. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and worked at York Graphics Service for 37 years. John was a parachutist and enjoyed skydiving; he had completed over 300 jumps. He also enjoyed hiking, biking, and collecting trains. John was also the President of the York Skydiving Club, Vice President of the York New Salem Borough Council, a York County Parks Ambassador, and member of the West York VFW.
In addition to his loving wife Patricia, John is survived by his children John Wainwright and wife Danielle of Albuquerque, NM, Alan Wolfgang and wife JoAnne of Hanover, and Sandra Wolfgang of Albuquerque, NM; his grandchildren Taryn, Colin, and Karli; and his great-granddaughter Cora. He is also survived by his brother Roy Wainwright; his sister Carol Crews; and his caregiver Deb Ball. John was preceded in death by his son Scott Wainwright.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend John's Graveside Service on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at 11:00AM at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 725 Baltimore St., Hanover, PA 17331 with full military honors presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Funeral services are under the direction of Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., of Spring Grove.
