John Wainwright Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Trahan Family Funeral Home - Pensacola on Jan. 10, 2026.
James Ames Wainwright, 63, was suddenly taken to be with the good Lord on January 8, 2026. The youngest of five children, born to James and Jean Wainwright, he came into this world as a preemie, but grew to be a tall gentle giant.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Jean Wainwright; stepdaughter, Amy Wainwright; and sister, Jerrie Beth Wainwright.

John is survived by his wife of 35 years, Nona; daughter, Amanda Wainwright; sister, Kathleen Harper; brothers, Jimmy (Debbie) and Frank Wainwright. He is also survived by his work family at Thomas Hospital Protective Services, Fairhope, AL; especially the team he worked with Rich, Wayne, Meleeta, his boss Kelly, and all the crew there and all the hospital staff that grew to know him over the last 18 years.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Michael Pursley, his resident Brett, and all the staff that took care of John.

John will be greatly missed by all who knew him and for those whose lives he touched.

Funeral services will be at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Trahan Family Funeral Home, 60 Industrial Boulevard, Pensacola, FL 32503. Visitation will start at 6:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest at Barrancas National Cemetery at a later date.
